Gold Rush Refinery Zambia Launches State-of-the-Art Gold Processing Plant in Lusaka

06 Nov

Gold Rush Refinery Zambia has officially launched its state-of-the-art gold processing and refining facility in Lusaka, marking a major milestone in Zambia’s journey toward value addition and mineral beneficiation. The facility is designed to refine gold to 99.99% purity, positioning Zambia as a key player in Africa’s gold value chain.

The launch event, held at the company’s new industrial site, brought together officials from the Ministry of Mines, stakeholders from the Bank of Zambia, and representatives from the private mining sector. In his address, the Managing Director of Gold Rush Refinery emphasized the importance of local refining in reducing export of unprocessed gold and enhancing Zambia’s foreign exchange reserves.

“Our vision is to make Zambia not just a source of raw gold, but a center for gold excellence across the region,” said the Managing Director. “By refining locally, we create jobs, enhance transparency, and ensure our nation fully benefits from its natural wealth.”

Cutting-Edge Refining Technology
The Lusaka plant is equipped with modern refining systems including electrolysis, aqua regia, and induction melting processes — enabling efficient, environmentally responsible gold purification. The facility follows stringent international standards, ensuring every gold bar meets London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) compliance requirements.

Economic Impact on Zambia
Gold Rush Refinery Zambia’s establishment will have a ripple effect on Zambia’s economy. It supports artisanal and small-scale miners by offering fair pricing and access to certified refining, creating a formalized gold market that curbs illegal exports. Additionally, it aligns with the government’s agenda to promote local value addition and mineral beneficiation.

Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability remains central to the refinery’s operations. The company has adopted eco-friendly refining practices and waste management protocols that minimize environmental impact. Gold Rush Refinery also runs training programs to empower local youths and mining cooperatives with technical skills in metal refining, laboratory testing, and precious metal analysis.

Looking Ahead
Gold Rush Refinery Zambia plans to expand its operations with a bullion vault and trading platform that will allow certified gold bars to be traded locally and regionally. The initiative is expected to strengthen Zambia’s role as a hub for gold trading in Southern Africa.
